Location

  • Japan is a country in the Eastern part of Asia surrounded by water.
  • It is located in the Pacific Ocean
  • The latitude and longitude of Japan is 36.2048° N, 138.2529° E.
  • It roughly begins near the Tropic of Cancer.
  • It consists of thousands of islands.

Regions

  • Japan is divided into eight regions including: Hokkaido, Tohoku, Kanto, Chubu, Kinki, Chugoku, Shikoku, and Kyushu.
  • Japan is made up of 6,853 islands with the main one being Honshu.
    • Honshu is Kanto one of the eight regions of Japan.
  • There are 103 cities in Japan, but the largest one is Tokyo with 28 million civilians.

Place

  • A large majority of Japan is mountains. 73% to be exact.
  • Some interesting places to visit in Japan include:
    • Mount Fuji (Japan’s tallest mountain at 12,388 feet tall)
    • Honshu (Japan’s main island)
    • Sea of Japan (Large beautiful sea located near Japan)
    • Kyushu (Region of Japan)
    • Shikoku (Region of Japan)
  • Some exclusive things about Japan is there beautiful cherry blossom trees and large selection of seafood.
  • Some cool buildings to visit are:
    • Umeda Sky Building
    • Tokyo Tower
    • Universal Studios Japan
    • Miraikan (Museum in Japan)
    • Meiji Shrine

Movement

  • Most people in Japan don’t even own a car or even have a driving license.
  • But, there are different ways they travel around
  • Most people in Japan use buses or trains to get around. Sometimes they use taxis to get around as well.
  • Since they are an island they can’t drive to other places so they use planes.
  • Japan sends all sorts of things to other countries like seafood and other things that only appear in Japan.
    • They are shipped in planes.

Human-Environment Interactions

  • Japan is mostly mountains and city. The places that are city is just city with not must place inbetween. This means that all the trees and other natural things had to be cut down or destroyed in order to build the city.
  • In Japan they mine for metals, fish for fish, and farm for rice.
  • Japan has a gigantic pollution problem. It takes over a lot of precious air.
  • About 65% of Japan is forest. The other parts are mountains and lots of cityscape.

  • Japan invented Anime. A popular Japanese type animation.
  • 26.7% of the world’s population are Japanese.
  • Japan invented some pretty important things like eyedrop funnels and umbrellas.
  • The traditional meal of Japan is rice with miso soup, vegetables, and fish.
